15 Jul 2015 by GrahamSmith

Emirates will resume flights to Erbil from next month.

The airline will operate a four-times weekly A330-200 service - on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays - to the Iraqi city from August 15.

On Mondays, outbound service EK949 will depart Dubai at 0645 and arrive in Erbil at 0920, while return leg EK950 will leave Erbil at 1045 and land in Dubai at 1455.

On Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, the outbound service will be operated by EK951/952. Outbound service EK951 will depart Dubai at 1315 and arrive in Erbil at 1550, while return flight EK952 will leave Erbil at 1725 and land in Dubai at 2135.

Emirates has been flying to Iraq since 2011 and currently operates services to Basra. It had stopped flying to Erbil due to being "disrupted by conflict".

Sheikh Majid Al Mualla, Emirates' divisional senior vice president, said: "We have been closely observing the situation in northern Iraq and upon a comprehensive review of our operations as well as a detailed risk assessment that is in line with Emirates' safety standards, we decided to recommence our services to Erbil."

Last month, workspace provide Regus opened a facility in Erbil (see news, June 12).
