Emirates adds phone charging trays in lounges

20 Jun 2015 by GrahamSmith

Emirates is introducing 30 wireless charging trays for most smartphones in its first and business class lounges in Concourse A, B and C at Dubai International airport.

The carrier said it will place the trays — which are compatible with Android, Blackberry and, with a cable, iPhone devices — in "highly visible" locations.

Each tray can accommodate two mobile phones at one time - passengers simply place their device on the tray for it to start working.

Mohammed Mattar, Emirates' divisional senior vice president of airport services, said: "Mobile devices are an intrinsic part of our lives, and at Emirates we see free wifi and wireless charging on the go, as becoming the norm in the future travel experience.

"That is why we invest to continually enhance connectivity in our lounges and onboard our aircraft. We are working with leading technology providers to launch a broader and more evolved deployment of wireless charging in our lounges and look forward to expanding this service for our customers."

Earlier this week, Emirates launched a "Hold My Fare" feature allowing passengers to lock-in fares for up to 48 hours when booking online (see news, June 17).
