Budget carrier Westjet will launch flights between Canada and London Gatwick next summer. The airline will start the transatlantic services, which it will operate with a B767-300 aircraft, in June 2016. Further details of the service including the "entire schedule" will be announced later this summer. Westjet CEO Gregg Saretsky said: "London Gatwick is the ideal airport for our first transatlantic wide-body destination. As we look at more international destinations as part of our growth strategy, we will look to airports who share our passion for efficient, low-cost travel combined with a remarkable guest experience." Stewart Wingate, Gatwick airport's CEO, added: "Westjet's announcement that it will connect Canada and London is further illustration that the growth of low-cost long-haul will continue to be a game-changer, increasing competition and services for passengers." Westjet launched its first service to the UK last month with a daily summer route between Halifax and Glasgow (see news, October 2014). westjet.com Graham Smith
