Garuda to reschedule European flights

11 Jun 2015 by Alex McWhirter

Garuda will halve its non-stop B777-300ER flights linking Jakarta with Europe next month.

The Indonesian airline has been forced to drop some of its heavy non-stop B777-300ER flights to lighten the load for Jakarta's weak runway (more information is available on the Business Traveller forum here).

So from July 22, the carrier will operate only three of its six weekly non-stop services to Amsterdam. The other three flights will stop en route in Singapore for refuelling.

Only those three flights which operate non-stop to Amsterdam will continue on to London Gatwick. The others will terminate in Amsterdam so effectively the tag flights are dropped.

All six flights will operate non-stop between Amsterdam and Jakarta.

It is unknown how long the disruption at Jakarta will last, but it could be months or even years before a new runway, which was already being planned, is built.

Passengers on the affected flights will have to contact Garuda or their travel agent as some timings will change and therefore existing connections may not be possible.

Although the London flight schedules are expected to remain unchanged some days of operation will be different.

Flight GA88 will operate non-stop to Amsterdam (continuing to London) on Tuesday, Friday and Sunday. The service returns from London via Amsterdam as flight GA89 on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday.

The remaining three weekly flights will operate from Jakarta to Amsterdam via Singapore and will return non-stop Amsterdam-Jakarta.
