Qatar Airways to launch Abha service

8 Jun 2015 by GrahamSmith

Qatar Airways will commence a four-times weekly service to Abha, Saudi Arabia in September.

The Gulf carrier will roster an A320 in a two-class configuration, with 12 seats in business class and 132 in economy, on to the route.

The airline currently operates 82 weekly flights to seven cities in Saudi Arabia.

From September 2, outbound service QR1212 will depart Doha at 1310 and arrive in Abha at 1540, with return service QR1213 leaving Abha at 1640 and landing in Doha at 1855.

Qatar Airways CEO Akbar Al Baker said: "We have been steadily growing our presence and services to Saudi Arabia. As our eighth destination, Abha will bring additional flexibility for passengers connecting from Asia, the Middle East, Europe and the Americas.

"From Abha, passengers will be able to travel seamlessly through our Doha hub to popular cities such as London, Paris, Bangkok, Singapore, New York and Washington, and at the same time this will provide passengers travelling to Saudi Arabia the convenience of another gateway within the same country."

Last week, Qatar Airways announced it will launch A350 services to Philadephia, New York JFK and Boston next year (see news, June 1).
