Air China to fly Beijing-Montreal non-stop

28 May 2015 by GrahamSmith

Air China will launch a non-stop service between Beijing and Montreal later this year as part of its joint venture agreement with Air Canada.

The thrice-weekly B777-300ER operation will run on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from September 29.

Air Canada will place its code on the flights, which will be "the first transpacific direct link between Asia and Montreal".

Outbound service CA879 will depart Beijing at 1300 and land in Montreal at 1350, while return service CA880 will leave Montreal at 1620 and arrive in Beijing at 1800 the next day.

Calin Rovinescu, Air Canada's president and CEO, said: "Non-stop flights between Montreal and Beijing will provide connections to cities throughout China via Air China's main hub in Beijing and complement Air Canada-operated flights from Toronto and Vancouver."

Air China president and CEO Song Zhiyong added: "This new route... will provide travellers with convenient travel options in cooperation with our partner Air Canada whose extensive North American network includes many cities easily served from Montreal throughout Quebec, Atlantic Canada and the United States."

Last year, the Star Alliance carriers signed a memorandum of understanding to "stimulate traffic growth" between their respective countries (see news, November 11).
