Lufthansa has installed premium economy on half of its long-haul fleet, it was announced today.

The German airline said approximately 2,000 seats on 53 of its aircraft now feature the new product.

All Lufthansa’s B747-8 and A380 aircraft have been retrofitted with premium economy, with its A330-300, A340-300, A340-600 and B747-400 aircraft to follow in the coming weeks.

Premium economy will be installed across all 105 of the carrier’s long-haul aircraft by late October (see news, March 5) and on all new aircraft.

Aircraft already fitted with the product are flying to destinations including New York, Miami, Los Angeles, Sao Paolo, Beijing, Singapore and Hong Kong.

The new seats are located in a separate compartment between business and economy. Each premium economy area will contain between 21 and 52 seats, depending on the aircraft type, with a 38-inch seat pitch and a width of either 18 or 19 inches.
