Malaysia Airlines has confirmed that its twice daily A380 service between Kuala Lumpur and London Heathrow is unlikely to be affected by cutbacks to its long-haul network.
Last week, the airline announced its new business plan will see some long-haul routes dropped and many of its long-haul planes, especially its A380s and B777-200ERs, be leased or sold (see news, May 5).
But Weng Chi Lee, the carrier's UK and Ireland area manager, today ruled out any changes on the "flagship" Kuala Lumpur to LHR route in the foreseeable future.
He said: "While the overall structure of the network continues to be evaluated, let me reassure you first and foremost that the twice daily London to Kuala Lumpur service is — and remains — our flagship route within the network.
"Malaysia Airlines has been flying between London and Kuala Lumpur for over 40 years and we are proud to serve this popular route with on the the most modern aircraft, the Airbus A380.
"There is currently no aircraft in the Malaysia Airlines fleet which could replace the A380."
