United replaces Dreamliner orders with larger B777-300ERs

23 Apr 2015 by GrahamSmith

United Airlines has replaced ten of its orders with Boeing for B787 Dreamliner aircraft with ten orders for the larger B777-300ER.

The move gives the US carrier a capacity boost, allowing it to meet passenger demand on certain routes without the need for additional frequencies.

These routes have not been revealed but, in the case of London, it would seem that United will operate the larger aircraft on routes to New York, Washington, Chicago plus one or more destinations on the US west coast.

United has also revealed it plans to retire more than 200 aircraft with 50 seats by the end of this year, reports Reuters.

Last week, the airline revealed it is introducing a new inflight menu for economy passengers featuring larger portions and complimentary beer and wine (see news, April 17).
