10 Feb 2015 by GrahamSmith

Lufthansa will launch a year-round direct route from Frankfurt to Panama City on November 16.

The German carrier will operate the five-times weekly service using an A340-300 featuring its new premium economy product (see news, November 14).

The aircraft will have 298 seats in a three-class configuration, with 18 in business, 19 in premium economy and 261 in economy.

Outbound service LH484 will depart Frankfurt at 1015 and arrive in Panama City at 1640 local time, while return service LH485 will leave Panama City at 1845 and land in Frankfurt at 1135 the next day.

The route is subject to governmental approval.

Lufthansa has also announced it is expanding its partnership with Panamanian airline Copa, providing more connections in South America.

A statement said: "Lufthansa passengers will in future be able to easily reach a further 50 destinations in Central and South America and the Caribbean with the partner airline.

"The most important travel destinations in Copa's network include airports in Peru, Ecuador, Costa Rica, Nicaragua and Guatemala.

"The times of the Lufthansa services are coordinated with Copa's connecting flights in such a way that passengers can transfer comfortably at Tocumen Airport."
