BA extends pre-order meal service to 21 routes

5 Feb 2015 by GrahamSmith

British Airways is extending its pre-order meal service from six routes to 21.

From today, the service, which allows those travelling in First, Club World and World Traveller Plus to select their meals before travel to guarantee their first choice of main course, will available on flights from London Heathrow to Sao Paulo, Buenos Aires, Mexico City, Houston, Austin and San Diego.

On March 1, it will be further extended to another nine destinations out of LHR — Atlanta, Denver, Boston, Philadelphia, Chicago, Baltimore, Toronto, Montreal and Calgary.

The pre-order meal service allows passengers to select their food via the "manage my booking" tool on ba.com between 30 days and 24 hours before their flight departs.

The First and Club World menus are updated monthly with passengers able to choose from three or four mains dishes, while the World Traveller Plus menus are changed every three months with passengers able to select from two options.

By the end of this year, the service will be available on all on all long-haul outbound flights from Heathrow, with Gatwick to follow.

Lynn McClelland, BA's head of catering, said: "We understand how important it is for customers to enjoy their flight and part of this involves them being able have their first choice meal.

"We initially selected six routes to offer pre order meals on that covered a variety of different journey times. This allowed us to get feedback from our customers and crew which has been hugely positive.

"We want to give customers as much choice as possible when flying and we are delighted that we have been able to extent this service onto more routes."

The pre-order facility first launched in December on flights from LHR to Las Vegas, Phoenix, Rio de Janeiro, Vancouver, Dallas and Seattle (see news, November 11).

Last week, BA announced big changes to its Executive Club programme from April 28 (see news, January 28).
