Snow forces Manchester airport to suspend flights

Manchester airport has suspended flights after heavy snowfall across the north of England and Scotland.

The airport closed at 0920 in order to clear snow off both its runways. For updates, click here.

A Manchester Airport spokesperson said: "We have currently suspended all departures and arrivals for a short period of time, whilst we are in the process of clearing both runways of snow so we can resume operations as quickly as possible.

"The safety and security of all of our passengers is of paramount importance and we ask for them to come to the airport as normal but to check with their airline for any further update."

Newcastle International airport has also delayed and cancelled some flights. For the latest information, click here.

Both Glasgow and Edinburgh airports are operating with minor delays.
