SIA Krisflyer teams up with Scott and Tigerair

27 Jan 2015 by GrahamSmith

Members of Singapore Airlines' Krisflyer loyalty programme will soon be able to use their miles to earn and redeem points when flying with Scoot and Tigerair.

From April, Krisflyer members can redeem their miles for vouchers to travel with Scoot and Tigerair. Likewise, they may also use their points to purchase selected products offered by either low-cost carrier (LCC).

SIA owns both Singapore-based budget airlines.

LCCs partnering with full-service airlines is a growing trend. Qantas and Emirates, for instance, work closely with Jetstar, and allow their frequent flyer programme members to earn and burn points when travelling with the Australian carrier.

Lee Wen Fen, SIA's senior vice president of marketing planning, said: "Scoot and Tigerair are already important parts of the SIA Group's portfolio of airlines. Including them as Krisflyer partners is a natural development and will help us live up to our promise to constantly offer more benefits to our members."

The ability to earn miles when flying with Scoot and Tigerair is also in the works, and will be offered by the end of the year.

While no details have been confirmed, it is highly likely that the earn rates from the LCC flights will be lower to that offered when travelling with SIA itself.

Earlier this month, some details emerged of the direction SIA will take with its forthcoming premium economy (see news, January 15).
