Qatar Airways will increase capacity on its services to Rome, Milan, Venice and Madrid this year.
The carrier will introduce a B787 Dreamliner onto its Doha to Rome Fiumicino route on March 29, the same date it will start operating an A330 on its Milan Malpensa route. It will also fly an A330 to Venice Marco Polo from June 16.
The announcement follows yesterday's unveiling by Alitalia and Etihad Airways of a strategic plan to bring the Italian carrier back into profit by 2017 (see news, January 20).
From July 16, the Gulf airline will begin a double-daily service to Madrid Barajas airport using a B777 aircraft. Qatar Airways currently flies ten-weekly flights to the Spanish capital (see news, August 5).
CEO Akbar Al Baker said: "We are delighted to be able to offer more opportunities to connect with both Italy and Spain, two of our most popular destinations, for both our leisure travellers looking to explore the world of history, art and architecture, as well as those travelling for business."
