Enhanced Qantas A330 makes international debut

19 Jan 2015 by GrahamSmith

Qantas has rostered its upgraded A330 onto its first international route, between Melbourne and Singapore.

The enhanced aircraft comes with the airline's new Marc Newson-designed "business suites", featuring seats that can be left in the recline position for both take-off and landing.

Also onboard is the next generation model of the Recaro economy seat (see news, October 21). To view a seatplan, click here.

Qantas group chief Alan Joyce said the new products have received positive reviews after being trialled on domestic routes, including select flights between Sydney and Perth, since the end of last month.

He added: "When you combine our investment in lounges with what we're offering on board our upgraded A330s, it puts Qantas in a very strong position to retain and win customers on key routes to Asia."

The inaugural international A330 flight, QF35, also saw the introduction of a limited edition Oroton amenity kit.

The Qantas Business Sleep Collection kit features a signature Oroton-styled bag filled with ASPAR products by Aurora Spa. The kit also contains Qantas business class pyjamas, eye mask, socks, toothbrush, toothpaste and earplugs.

It will be offered to business customers travelling on select international flights from Asia, operated by the refurbished A330 aircraft.

Since announcing record losses early last year (see news, February 2014), the carrier last month reported profits of A$300 million during the first six month of the 2014/15 financial year.
