15 Jan 2015 by GrahamSmith

Delta Air Lines has applied to operate a daily service between Los Angeles and Shanghai.

The US carrier has formally submitted an application to the United States Department of Transportation (DOT) proposing that the route begins on July 9.

If approved, outbound service DL185 will depart LAX at 1315 and arrive at Shanghai Pu Dong airport at 1815 the following day. Return service DL186 will take-off from Shanghai at 2055 and land in Los Angeles at 1815 the same day.

Delta plans to roster a B777-200LR onto the route. To view a seatplan of this aircraft, click here.

Ranjan Goswami, Delta's vice president of sales - west, said: "Delta's new nonstop service provides our business customers with more access to Shanghai and markets beyond through our partnerships with China Eastern Airlines and China Southern Airlines.

"This route was the most requested by our corporate customers, and everyone will enjoy the investments we've made to upgrade our airport facilities, our onboard service, full flat-bed seats with direct aisle access in Business Elite, and industry-leading complimentary inflight entertainment."

Last month, Delta announced that its passengers will from March 1 have five fare options to choose from (see news, December 10).
