14 Jan 2015 by GrahamSmith

Hilton Worldwide has opened its first property at Munich airport.

The 389-room Hilton Munich Airport, previously Kempinski Munich Airport Hotel, will now undergo an extension with another 160 rooms to be added by 2017.

The hotel offers meetings and conference spaces, with business facilities spread over 20 meeting rooms, food and beverage options, and a spa area featuring a 17-metre swimming pool, whirlpool, sauna, steam bath, fitness area, seven treatment rooms and a pool bar.

The five-storey building, which has a full height glass atrium, is the only hotel with direct access to the terminal building.

Simon Vincent, Hilton Worldwide's president and executive vice president, EMEA, said: "The opening of Hilton Munich Airport follows new Hilton Worldwide airport hotels at London's Heathrow and Gatwick as well as Krakow in Poland.

"With nearly 40 million passengers travelling through Munich airport in 2014, we are uniquely positioned to give guests direct and convenient access to the terminal building. This addition to our portfolio in Germany marks more than 20 hotels trading and in the pipeline in key locations throughout the country."

Last month, Hilton Worldwide's digital check-in service that lets Hilton HHonors members use their smartphone to check-in/out and choose their preferred room went live in more than 4,100 hotels (see news, December 22).
