Hilton Worldwide has opened its first Doubletree hotel in New Zealand.

The 98-room Doubletree by Hilton Queenstown, formerly the Kawarau Hotel, is located on the South Island close to Queenstown International airport.

Each room features a fully-fitted kitchenette with an oven, microwave and fridge, while many also have an adjoining lounge area "decorated in a modern alpine style".

Facilities include a bar, a noodle restaurant and a ten-seat cinema.

John Greenleaf, global head of Doubletree by Hilton, said: "The addition of Doubletree by Hilton Queenstown to our fast-growing global portfolio further underscores our brand's commitment to delivering our upscale, full-service hotel offering in all key markets and gateway cities around the world."

HHonors loyalty programme members who book a stay of three nights or more at Doubletree by Hilton Queenstown by December 9, to be taken by February 9, will receive an introductory 5,000 bonus points.

Earlier this week, Doubletree CEO Greenleaf told Business Traveller that the brand has signed agreements for 150 more properties worldwide, most of which will open in the next three years (see news, November 12).
