Oman Air loyalty programme members will from next week be able to purchase seat upgrades at Muscat airport.
Sindbad members with enough miles to afford an upgrade will from November 15 be asked if they want to do so at check-in.
The service will cost the same number of miles as it would if upgrading online in advance of travel and is subject to seat availability on each flight.
Mohammed Al Shikely, the airline's general manager of marketing, told Business Traveller that should the trial prove a success, it will be rolled out to other airports internationally.
He said: "We're going to review how that works for us at the base [Muscat airport] and then see how we can expand it even further.
"It gives flexibility to the member to arrive at airport check-in and the check-in staff says to the customer, 'By the way, you have x amount of miles, there are seats available on this flight, would you like to use your miles to upgrade?'"
The service is also available to Sindbad members who arrive at the airport having already checked-in online as staff will be present to offer an upgrade, Al Shikely said.
He added: "We're simply trying to make life easier. We're doing it to improve the customer experience."
