American to fly daily to Birmingham and Edinburgh

American Airlines will next year launch two new daily services to the UK from New York JFK. The routes to Birmingham and Edinburgh are scheduled to begin on May 7 and will both be operated by B757-200 aircraft. The Birmingham service will see outbound flight AA130 depart JFK at 1900 and arrive at Birmingham airport at 0710 the following day. Return service AA131 will take-off from Birmingham at 1000 and land in New York at 1255 local time. Chuck Schubert, American's vice president of network and schedule planning, said: "We are very excited to add Birmingham, England to American's growing global network. "This flight gives our customers on both sides of the Atlantic a new option for travel between the United States and England. Our extensive network beyond New York City will provide tremendous access between key business and leisure markets and Birmingham." The Edinburgh service will see outbound flight AA278 depart New York at 1910 and land at Edinburgh airport at 0715 the next day. Return service AA279 will take-off from Edinburgh at 0915 and arrive at JFK at 1150 local time. Last week, it emerged that American will next year add a second daily service between London Heathrow and Los Angeles (see news, October 31). And, the US carrier will also commence a daily service between Miami and Frankfurt on May 14. Outbound flight AA250 will depart Miami at 1445 and arrive in Frankfurt at 0615 the next day, while return flight AA251 will take-off from Frankfurt at 1000 and land in Miami at 1455 local time. aa.com Graham Smith
