27 Oct 2014 by GrahamSmith

United Airlines will operate a nonstop Newcastle to New York Newark service next summer.

The carrier will roster a B757-200 aircraft onto the five-times weekly route between May 23 and September 7.

Outbound service UA159 will depart Newcastle daily, except on Wednesdays and Thursdays, at 0910, and arrive at Newark at 1200. Return flight UA160 will take-off from Newark daily, except on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, at 1920 and land in Newcastle at 0730 the next day.

United's B757-200 seats 169, with 16 seats in Business First and 153 in economy, including 45 Economy Plus seats.

Bob Schumacher, United's managing director of sales in UK and Ireland, said: "We'll be offering the people of north-east England easy, convenient travel options not only to New York City but also to destinations throughout the Americas.

"United already offers transatlantic service from more cities in the UK than any other airline and we've every reason to be confident that this new service will be a success."

Last week, United announced it will make Hertz its preferred car rental partner from November 1 (see news, October 22).
