BA to return to Kuala Lumpur

17 Sep 2014 by GrahamSmith

British Airways will return to Kuala Lumpur next year after a 14-year absence.

The national carrier will operate a direct daily service between London Heathrow and Kuala Lumpur in summer 2015.

It will roster a four-cabin B777-200ER onto the route. The aircraft will contain four cabins with 12 seats in First, 48 in Club World (business), 32 in World Traveller Plus (premium economy) and 127 in World Traveller (economy). To view a seatplan, click here.

The service will begin on May 27 — 14 years after BA last flew to the Malaysian capital.

Outbound flight BA033 will depart LHR Terminal 5 daily at 2015, arriving in Kuala Lumpur at 1600 local time the following day. Return flight BA034 will take-off from Kuala Lumpur at 2305 and land in London at 0525 local time the next day.

The airline has given the route the same flight numbers it previously operated with before 2001. The BA033 will depart T5 daily at 8.15pm, arriving into Kuala Lumpur 12 hours 45 minutes, later at 4pm (local). The returning BA034 will leave Kuala Lumpur at 11.05pm (local) and arrive back into Heathrow’s T5 at 5.25am the next morning.

Lynne Embleton, BA's director of business strategy, said: "We are restarting the route in response to commercial demand from our customers who have been asking us for direct British Airways flights to Kuala Lumpur, which opens up new connecting routes around the region."

Last week, BA announced that it will fly its new A380 to San Francisco next summer (see news, September 10).
