Xiamen Air has taken delivery of its first B787 Dreamliner, becoming the third Chinese carrier to operate the fuel-efficient aircraft.
The airline intends to use the Dreamliner on its planned long-haul routes to Europe, North America and Australia.
In July, the Skyteam alliance member unveiled the aircraft's cabin interiors (see news, July 23).
China's only all-Boeing carrier, Xiamen Air took delivery of its 100th Boeing aircraft last November.
Its current five-year plan, ending 2015, will see the airline grow its fleet to 150 airplanes, with the bulk to be the B737 narrowbody aircraft. It also has an existing order for five more B787s to fuel its long-haul aspirations.
Che Shanglun, president and chairman of Xiamen Air, said: "With the innovative technology and exceptional efficiency, the 787 Dreamliner will be key to our further growth and international expansion."
