Etihad reveals its first six B787-9 routes

28 Aug 2014 by GrahamSmith

Etihad Airways will roster its B787-9 Dreamliners onto six routes between December and June next year.

The Gulf carrier will fly its Boeing aircraft to Dusseldorf, Doha, Washington DC, Mumbai, Brisbane and Moscow.

It will also debut its new first, business and economy class products on the B787.

James Hogan, Etihad's president and CEO, said: "The Boeing 787-9 will be used to launch flights to new destinations, add capacity in existing markets and progressively replace existing, less-efficient aircraft."

The airline has 71 B787s on order, of which 41 are B787-9s and 30 are B787-10s.

Set to take deliveries of its first Dreamliners this year, Etihad will deploy the B787-9 onto its Dusseldorf and Doha routes from December, followed by Washington DC and Mumbai from January 1, and Brisbane and Moscow from June 1.

Test flights will be conducted with the airline's first B787-9 prior to its entry into service.

Etihad yesterday announced that it will operate triple-daily A380 flights into London Heathrow and that it will fly the superjumbo to Sydney from June next year (see news, August 27).
