BA to screen top flight football

29 Jul 2014 by GrahamSmith

British Airways will air football highlights and popular TV show Soccer AM on all long-haul flights from next month.

Starting August 19, the airline will host a weekly programme, Premier League Goals, showing highlights from England's top flight 2014/15 season.

It will also screen the 30-minute Saturday cable show Soccer AM each week. Both highlights programmes will be available in the Sport section of BA's inflight entertainment.

The airline will also introduce the new Red Bull Sports channel, which will launch onboard in September.

This channel will feature archive sports programming footage "ranging from freestyle moto-cross and mountain biking, to surfing and underground cave explorations".

Richard D'Cruze, BA's inflight entertainment manager, said: "We aim to cater to all sports fans with our extensive range of popular programmes. Now we offer more choice than ever — from action sports to the nation's favourite sport, showing on board.

"The Premier League is one of the most respected and followed football leagues. Wherever you go in the world, whatever language people speak – they've all heard of Manchester United, Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea and all the big teams, and we expect this to be a big hit."

Last month, it emerged that BA is trialling a high-tech blanket that monitors brainwaves and changes colour to show when passengers are at their most relaxed in the sky (see news, June 30).
