Accor has announced it will open the world's largest Novotel hotel in Madrid in 2016.
The 790-room Novotel Convención Madrid will be located in the centre of the city in Calle O'Donnell, near the Parque del Retiro.
The building, which was constructed in 1978, is currently occupied by Hotel Convención, the third largest hotel in the Spanish capital.
Before it reopens in two years' time as a Novotel it will undergo a complete refurbishment and design.
Amenities will include an outdoor swimming pool on the roof terrace, a fitness centre, business floors, free wifi, and 2,400 sqm of meeting space with enough room to host events for up to 1,500 people.
Novotel Convención Madrid will be operated under a franchise contract.
Novotel currently has three hotels in Madrid — Novotel Campo de las Naciones, Novotel Puente de la Paz and Novotel Sanchinarro.
Earlier this year, Accor opened Novotel London Wembley on Olympic Way, the pedestrianised zone linking Wembley Park underground station with the stadium (see news, December 2013).
