Etihad to fly B787-9 to Brisbane and Moscow

12 Jul 2014 by GrahamSmith

Etihad Airways will operate B787-9 Dreamliners to Brisbane and Moscow from June 1 next year.

The Gulf airline will fly the aircraft daily direct to Brisbane and five-times weekly to the Russian capital.

Its new three-class B787-9s contain 235 seats, with eight in first class, 28 in business and 199 in economy.

The non-stop flights to Brisbane will replace the current daily one-stop services that operate via Singapore with a two-class A330-200 aircraft.

James Hogan, Etihad's president and CEO, said: "Since we started services between Brisbane and Abu Dhabi in 2007, the route has gone from strength-to-strength and we have now carried more than 520,000 passengers on the route.

"The introduction of the first ever daily non-stop service between Brisbane and Abu Dhabi enables us to build on the route's robust performance by offering our strongest customer proposition yet — an enhanced onboard experience, shorter travel times, and the convenience of one-stop connectivity to popular destinations in the Middle East, Africa and Europe."

Etihad's first B787-9 is scheduled to enter service in December.

From June 1, its daily Brisbane service will see outbound flight EY484 leave Abu Dhabi at 2200 and arrive in the Australian city at 1815 the following day. Return service EY485 will take-off from Brisbane at 2150 and arrive in Abu Dhabi at 0600 the next day.

The Moscow service will fly weekdays, with flight EY069 departing Abu Dhabi at 0845 and arriving at Moscow Domodedovo at 1405, and return service EY068 leaving Moscow at 1515 and landing in Abu Dhabi at 20255.
