Etihad to fly to Edinburgh from 2015

10 Jul 2014 by GrahamSmith

Etihad Airways will next year launch its first service to Scotland with a non-stop daily flight between Abu Dhabi and Edinburgh.

The new route is scheduled to commence on June 8.

It will be operated by a two-class A330-200 with 22 seats in business class and 240 seats in economy.

Outbound service EY27 will depart Abu Dhabi at 0240 and land in Edinburgh at 0740 local time. Return flight EY28 will take-off from Edinburgh at 0915 and arrive in Abu Dhabi at 1945 local time.

James Hogan, president and CEO of Etihad Airways, first revealed the airline's plans to fly to a Scottish city in February (see news, February 28).

He said today: "Scotland has been on our radar for some time and we are delighted that the first direct connection between its capital, Edinburgh, and the capital of the UAE, Abu Dhabi, will be operational from next year.

"Travellers will benefit from convenient connections to many other destinations, both on our own global network and through our relationships with other airlines."

He added that Etihad plans to launch a second service between Scotland and Abu Dhabi in five years' time.

Edinburgh is Etihad's third departure point from the UK. It currently offers triple-daily flights from London, and double-daily flights from Manchester.
