Qatar Airways is partnering with fellow Oneworld member Japan Airlines on five new codeshare routes.
The announcement comes less than a week after the Doha-based carrier launched a daily service to Tokyo Haneda airport (see news, March 6).
Qatar Airways and JAL already operate a codeshare on three routes from Doha into Japan and on six domestic routes.
From July 12, Qatar Airways will place its code on JAL domestic services from Tokyo Haneda to Osaka, New Chitose, Fukoaka, Okinawa and Nagoya.
Qatar Airways CEO Akbar Al Baker said: "Alliances and codeshares alike are playing an increasingly important role in the airline industry today – and that will continue long into the future.
"Becoming a member of Oneworld last October was one of the most significant landmarks in Qatar Airways' history. It has strengthened our competitive offering and the advent of these new codeshare routes with Japan Airlines will expand travel options even further within our global alliance network."
