Steigenberger has announced plans to open its first property in the Middle East with a hotel in Doha.

The German hotel group will begin construction on the Steigenberger Hotel Doha Airport Road this autumn with the five-star property scheduled to open in 2016.

It will be located close to the city centre and Doha International Airport.

The property will contain about 200 rooms including suites, junior suites and a presidential suite.

There will feature two restaurants, a bar, a 400 sqm ballroom, several seminar and meeting rooms, a fitness and health spa centre with saunas, a pool and a gym.

Last year, Steigenberger opened its first Asian property in Beijing (see news, November 2013).

Puneet Chhatwal, CEO of Frankfurter Steigenberger Hotels AG, said: "Following the signing of agreements for projects in China and Dubai, Doha is an ideal addition to our portfolio of hotels at attractive locations."

The Steigenberger Frankfurter Hof and Steigenberger Parkhotel Dusseldorf were refurbished in 2013.

From the beginning of this year, all the group's hotels have offered free wifi.

This is not Steigenberger's first Middle East hotel since they have a hotel in Luxor, Egypt.
