IHG to open fifth Hotel Indigo in NYC

21 Mar 2014 by GrahamSmith

Intercontinental Hotels Group will open a fifth Hotel Indigo property in New York City in 2016.

The 190-room Hotel Indigo NYC Financial District will be located in lower Manhattan on Maiden Lane, one block from the new One World Trade Center.

The 7,100 sqm property will stand 25 storeys high and will contain a restaurant and bar, a fitness centre and a rooftop lounge, as well as 135 sqm of meeting space.

It will also feature Hotel Indigo's new "Neighbourhood Guide", a touchscreen display that connects guests to each other, the local neighbourhood and to Hotel Indigo locations around the world.

A statement said: "Hotel team members, many of whom are locals themselves, will share their favorite hidden gems with guests looking to explore and discover the neighbourhood."

The hotel will also "pay homage" to engraving, jewellery and watchmaking, in recognition of the trade's long history on Maiden Lane.

Mary Winslow, Hotel Indigo's brand management director, said: "The financial district has long been known for its commercial success, but it's recently experienced significant cultural and residential growth, and we are so proud that we're becoming part of the neighbourhood.

"Everyone knows that on Wall Street, time is money, but a lot of people may not know about the area's history in clock and watchmaking. We can't wait to show our guests how special this neighbourhood really is."

Hotel Indigo currently has four other New York City locations — in Brooklyn and Chelsea, with two additional properties planned for the Lower East Side and Flushing, Queens.

IHG will open its first Hotel Indigo in Madrid next month (see news, March 14).
