British Airways has launched a business class leisure fare, it was announced today.

The new fare is available on short-haul Club Europe flights from London Heathrow and London City that incorporate an overnight Saturday stay.

It is up to 50 per cent cheaper than existing Club fares.

Robin Glover-Faure, BA's head of short-haul, said: "These new fares will mean flying in Club Europe is no longer just for special occasions. Flying with British Airways is all about flying with style, and now more leisure travellers can enjoy the benefits of Club Europe at great value prices."

BA has released some examples of the new fares, available from both Heathrow and London City:

  • Amsterdam was £411, now £239
  • Zagreb was £309, now £236
  • Bergen was £456, now £228
  • Paris was £435, now £257
  • Hanover was £481, now £249

The airline yesterday confirmed that its B787-9 Dreamliner aircraft, the first of which will arrive next year, will be fitted with its next generation First cabin (see news, March 11).

Though recent CE sale fares (sale ended yesterday) are marginally better than these fare buckets, the fact they are available year round from Heathrow (when previously they were only to be had from Gatwick) is a positive move.

It's still possible to get CE fares for under £200 rtn, Zagreb and Bordeaux being a case in point. You can see the lowest fares using BA's low fare finder.

Is this Robin guy for real?.. Club Europe is barely even a "club" product at all any more. Same seat pitch now as euro-traveller, no entertainment even on 4.5 hour flights. A hot towel and a guaranteed space in the middle, does not, a business product, make!. If this was rolled out to Club WORLD it would actually mean something
