InterContinental Hotels Group plans to open a 538-room hotel and residence suites in Doha in October, followed by a Crowne Plaza near the airport next March.
The 56-storey InterContinental West Bay Doha will be primarily targeting MICE business as it has a convention centre attached, which directly connects with the hotel's first floor.
The skyscraper, which houses one, two and three-bedroom residence suites to floor 27, with floors 28-54 containing hotel rooms, is capped off by a two-level seafood restaurant.
In contrast, IHG’s third hotel in the city will be a 'low rise but futuristic’ Crowne Plaza, while its existing hotel, the InterContinental Doha will continue to promote itself as a business resort.
“The new Crowne Plaza is in an oval-shaped business park and features a ball at its centrepiece, which will contain three ballrooms on top of each other,” said Pascal Gauvin, IHG's Vice President Operations, Near East.
He believes Doha can accommodate all IHG’s portfolio of brands. “We have some contact for Holiday Inn and Staybridge Suites already, but we want the right location and right owner,” he said.
