The first Sofitel hotel in India has opened at the Bandra Kurla Complex in Mumbai.
The 302-room Sofitel Mumbai BKC is located at Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC), the new financial district in Mumbai with close access to the Bandra-Worli sealink, which provides quick, multi-lane access to the south and centre of the city.
The immediate area around the hotel consists of offices of many multinational corporations including BNP Paribas as well as the National Stock Exchange and the world's largest diamond trading centre, the Bharat Diamond Bourse.
The decor has been created by Franco-Spanish designer Isabelle Miaja who has combined French and Indian cultural themes.
All rooms, including 31 suites feature Sofitel’s MyBed concept, a pillow menu, custom-designed furnishings and L’Occitane and Hermès room amenities.

A floor is dedicated to So SPA by Sofitel, which will feature original music and signature treatments, with products from French brands such as Cinq Mondes and Gemology.
The property has six dining venues including Pondichéry Café, specialising in combinations of Indian and French flavours; Jyran, featuring a classical Indian decor serving traditional North Indian cuisine; L’Artisan – Épicerie, Pâtisserie, Chocolaterie, which serves chocolate, cooked meats and cheeses; and Bar Diamantaire, which features a wine tower. Nine meeting rooms are also available.
Sofitel has plans for two more hotels in the city: Sofitel Mumbai Mulund and Sofitel So Mumbai, both set to open in 2014.

I stayed there last week. It's a beautiful hotel with a very impressive staff. To give you an idea, I arrived at the gym at 9.15pm, knowing that it was only open until 10. I left at 10 on the dot. I was the only guest so the two staff were staying just for me. Despite this, they asked, "are you sure you want to leave so early? We're happy to stay." After all these years of travel, that was a first. (I didn't make them stay, BTW but did get them to help me train on the second night I went there as both were real personal trainers)
I think that only two of the restaurants are open but I have to admit that I never made it to either: the spread in the Club Milllesime was so good (cold hors d'oeuvres and small hot dishes) that I just ordered fruit from room service.
"Quick, multi-lane access" is, I think, more of an aspiration than a reality. There are, indeed, dual carriageways around the hotel but getting to those multi-lane roads required a lot of navigation of more typical Mumbai streets (I admit, though, that I didn't go south -- only to and from Chembur, Juhu and the airport). There is a lot of roadwork underway, though so it might not be too long.
Overall, it was a fantastic experience and highly recommended
