Rocco Forte Hotel Abu Dhabi, the company’s first hotel in the Middle East, is on track for a fourth quarter opening.

The 281-room wave-shaped hotel, featuring a blue and green glass façade, is located between the airport and downtown areas, close to the exhibition centre and Yas Island.

It is the first property within the group to bear the name of its Chairman and CEO, Sir Rocco Forte.

“For more than a decade, Middle Eastern executives have come to make up a significant proportion of guests visiting our 13 existing properties in Europe,” he said.

“Therefore, we believe the Rocco Forte Hotel Abu Dhabi will be a compelling destination for such guests.”

He said its flagship hotel in the Emirate will set the tone for its planned expansion in the Middle East.

Above each large bathtub in the rooms is an Arabic inscription, meaning ‘May it rain on our desert’, opposite the walk-in shower.

Culinary options include a modern Chinese/Japanese restaurant, poolside South American bar, and chefs Mark Hix and Paolo Verzen will oversee the grill and Italian à la carte restaurant respectively.

The upper lobby tea lounge will offer city views and Sky Bar is located on the glass-walled sixth floor.

A separate floor contains seven meeting rooms, business centre and  ballroom which can accommodate 500 seated guests, as well as a pre-function area. A VIP majlis and dedicated events team are also available.

A 2,000sqm spa includes a vichy shower suite, fully-equipped gym and yoga/pilates studio as well as a salon.

The 28,000sqm project has been developed in conjunction with Tourism Development & Investment Company (TDIC) and the UAE’s Al Farida Investments Company.

Upcoming Rocco Forte hotels regionally include a 146-room property opening in Jeddah in 2013, an all-suite Golf & Spa Resort with private, luxury villas in Marrakech in 2014, a 275-bedroom property in Cairo in 2014 and a 82-room property in Luxor 2014.
