Qatar Airways will resume three-a-week flights to Tripoli, via Alexandria, from February 2.
Services on two-class A320s (12 First, 132 economy) will run Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays with QR510 departing Doha at 0705, arriving in Tripoli at 1400. The return flight, QR511, will depart Tripoli at 1500, arriving in Doha at 2210.
Qatar had been flying to Tripoli for nine years and its return means Emirates is the only one of the 'big three' Gulf carriers that has yet to return to Tripoli. Etihad started three-a-week flights last week (click here).
The airline, which serves nearby Benghazi with four flights a week, said it plans to increase Tripoli capacity at a later date.
Qatar Airways CEO Akbar Al Baker said reviving the Tripoli flights, now that the political situation had eased, was a welcome boost to the airline's operations, helping meet demand to and from the Libyan capital.
"Libya is an important market for us and it was unfortunate that unfolding events there had affected operations on safety grounds of all airlines flying to the country," he said.
