IFE broadband provider Row 44 says it has "several" launch airline partners which will deliver live Internet Protocol television (IPTV) in-flight to passengers’ smart phones, laptops and tablet devices.
Passengers will be able to watch, on their own wifi-enabled devices in-flight, live news and political talk on FOX News Channel, MSNBC and BBC World News; live business news from CNBC, FOX Business Network and Bloomberg TV; and sports on VERSUS, to be re-branded NBC Sports Network on January 2.
Row 44 said it will continue adding more innovative live video programming to its in-flight TV offering.
Howard Lefkowitz, Row 44’s Chief Commercial Officer, said whether it’s the latest news updates, sports scores or checking in with the financial markets, Row 44 aims to create an enjoyable experience for every air traveller and new "incremental revenue opportunities" for its airline partners.
"We will be continuing to add high-quality live programming worldwide," he said.
Southwest Airlines' Chief Marketing Officer Dave Ridley said it looks forward to offering content onboard its wifi-enabled aircraft later this year.
Gulf Air will be among the first Middle Eastern carriers to offer Live TV through its Panasonic Global Communications Suite package (click here).
