IranAir eyeing Airbus order

IranAir is looking to buy more Airbus planes as part of a fleet renovation programme designed to reduce repair and maintenance costs.
In an interview with Fars News Agency, Managing Director Farhad Parvaresh said it plans to narrow down the models it operates - it currently flies a mixture of Fokker, Boeing and Airbus aircraft - to lower losses and boost productivity.
The carrier, which serves 35 international destinations in Asia and Europe, needs to replace 40 aircraft with new planes.

I am devasted by this news because it probably heralds the retirement of Iran Air's wonderful 747-100s, A300s and A310s together with their assortment of Fokkers and leased Tupolovs. I have also seen (but never flown in) their 707s..... Travelling to and within Iran was a fanciful (if somewhat risky) trip down aircraft memory lane. Now they will be as boring as everyone else!!

Hi,
I'm not sure how new these aircraft are going to be. Since there is American content in Airbus aircraft, it will be next to impossible for Airbus to directly sell to Iran Air.
