Gulf Air grapples with 30% passenger drop

The regional unrest and introduction of travel bans saw Gulf Air lose up to 30% of its passengers in the three months to April, claims CEO Samer Majal.
"We’ve been concerned with continuing our operations as much as we can - we hope we can recover very soon with the traffic we lost in February, March and April," he said.
While he said the airline will continue to focus on its regional network, in recent months it has looked further afield, announcing flights to Milan, Geneva, Copenhagen, Nairobi and Kabul.
"Our job is to become the regional network of choice, so that people can travel from anywhere within the Middle East and through Bahrain to anywhere else," added Majal.
He acknowledged that the faster it can improve the image of Bahrain and the region to the rest of the world, the faster it can recover.
"In the past people used to avoid bad spots for longer periods but now there’s no particular region on earth without issues," he said.
