Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts is to open a 237-room resort on Dubai's Jumeirah Beach Road mid-2014.

The announcement, which was made at the Dubai Marina Yacht Club this morning, lays to rest speculation about when the Canadian operator will re-enter the Dubai market.

Four Seasons Resort Dubai at Jumeirah Beach will contain 237 rooms, including 49 suites, and target leisure and business guests equally, "leaning towards a residential-style product while offering business guests personalised support and service".

The statement says the 11-acre resort, which will have exclusive access to a 270m stretch of beach, will be located at the northern end of Jumeirah Beach Road on the site of the former Jumeirah Beach Club.

The resort will be designed by architect WATG, with interior design by San Francisco-based BAMO. It will feature at least three restaurants, and poolside dining. The function spaces which have beachfront access will include a 600sqm ballroom and five meeting rooms. In keeping with its resort positioning, the property will also be home to a premier spa, indoor and outdoor pools, tennis courts and private beach club.

Kathleen Taylor, President and CEO, Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts, said as with all markets across the globe in which Four Seasons operates, it was important to take time to find its niche as well as identify the right partner. The project is being developed in collaboration with UAE-based holding company Bright Start.

It marks Four Seasons' first hotel in Dubai, and its return to the market after it pulled out of operating the Al Badia Golf Club at Dubai Festival City.
