Etihad Airways will launch six-a-week services between Abu Dhabi and Lagos from July 1, subject to regulatory approvals.
The direct service will be operated by a two-class A330-200 aircraft with 22 Pearl Business and 240 Coral Economy seats.
On Mondays, Tuesdays and Saturdays, EY671 will depart Abu Dhabi 1000 and arrive in Lagos 1445, with the return flight departing 2000 and arriving in Abu Dhabi 0655.
On Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays, EY673 will depart Abu Dhabi 0225 and arrive in Lagos 0710, with EY674 departing Nigeria 0850 and arriving in the UAE capital at 1945.
James Hogan, Etihad Airways President and CEO, said serving the Nigerian city is consistent with its strategy of targeting areas of strong growth in emerging markets.
The route makes commercial sense, given both cities' plentiful natural resources, particularly oil and natural gas.
With Nigeria attracting significant foreign investment, particularly from China, Etihad will also aim to capitalise on east-west business and funnel it through Abu Dhabi.
The service gives the airline a foothold in west Africa and will complement other African routes such as Tripoli (click here) and Nairobi, which is due to launch in April.
