Etihad Airways operated its maiden flight from Abu Dhabi to Tripoli on Tuesday, the airline's first new destination of 2012.
Inaugural flight EY687 - which was piloted by Chief Operating Officer Richard Hill - departed Abu Dhabi at 0745 and touched down at 1215.
The service, which will operate three times a week (Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays) on two-class A330 aircraft, is the only direct commercial flight between the UAE and Libya's capital city, since Emirates, which used to serve the route from Dubai, announced its was pulling its service indefinitely.
Indeed, it is the only airline operating to Tripoli from the Gulf, although Qatar Airways, which restarted flights to Benghazi in November (click here), is considering the destination.
Tripoli is Etihad's fifth African destination and the service marks the first time the two Arab capitals have had commercial air links.
