Iraq's fourth largest city Erbil is targeting more international services following a $300m investment to its airport.
Its 4,800m runway has undergone a $4.8m revamp making it among the longest globally.
Erbil International Airport, which now has 13 carriers serving 23 destinations, handled over 454,000 passengers last year.
The airport, billed as 'the gateway to Kurdistan', was promoted at the recent Airports Expansion, Cargo and Logistics Conference and Exhibition in Erbil which attracted 2,000 visitors.
Iraq's major airports continue to be rehabilitated, and provincial governments upgraded, as the country seeks to revitalise its aviation industry.
