Dubai International is on course to handle 51m passengers by the end of 2011, after volumes increased 8.8% to 3.97m passengers in May.
Russian and CIS traffic spiked as a result of flydubai's ongoing expansion and the US recorded double-digit growth with Emirates doubling its frequencies to Houston and Los Angeles, but the unrest-affected Middle East saw numbers fall 5.6%.
Year-to-date traffic stands at 20.5m, up 8.6% year-on-year.
Dubai International was the fourth busiest airport globally for passenger traffic in the year to February, according to ACI data.
