Luxury operator Four Seasons will unveil plans for a new Dubai hotel in 2011.
Jim Fitzgibbon, President, Worldwide Hotel Operations for Four Seasons, said: “It’s safe to say there will be an announcement this year.”
He declined to elaborate on the project or say whether it would be a city hotel or resort.
Four Seasons dipped its toe in the market when it managed Al Badia Golf Club at Dubai Festival City, but a proposed hotel on site never materialised. The golf club is now managed by InterContinental Hotels Group.
Dubai remains one of the major gaps in Four Seasons’ Middle Eastern portfolio although it remains active in the UAE with Four Seasons Hotel Abu Dhabi at Sowwah Island due to open in 2013.
Reservations for the 139-room Four Seasons Hotel Marrekech, set in a 40-acre walled garden, are being taken from June 15. The spa component is significant with 17 treatment rooms.
Other upcoming properties include Baku, Casablanca and St Petersburg, which is due to open in the first quarter of next year.
Fitzgibbon said the company will launch a new website in the autumn, displaying a sharper e-commerce edge.
“A big part of our focus is now e-commerce and social media. I don’t use social media that much – but I do understand that the activity on social media drives the search engines. For us it’s very important.”
