Conrad Dubai delayed to summer 2012

The Conrad Dubai on Sheikh Zayed Road is unlikely to open before next summer.
Rudi Jagersbacher, Area President, Middle East and Africa for Hilton Worldwide, said: “I think we’re looking at the end of the second quarter.”
The 550-room hotel was originally scheduled to open this year.
On site will be 30 meeting rooms, two ballrooms, three restaurants and bars, a spa and health club with outdoor pool.
Jagersbacher said the market remains “mediocre” and operators are wrestling with rates.
“But with great brands in that vicinity, it will be good as a unit,” he said.
Starwood recently announced it will open the Sheraton Dubai Sheikh Zayed Road Hotel at the beginning of 2014 (click here).
He believes the Egypt market, where Hilton operates 17 hotels, remains challenging.
“I don’t think it’s a quick fix. Bullishly I hope it’s back in six months, but I don’t know. If it comes back any sooner than quarter one next year, I’ll be really happy.”
