Budget guests 'more green conscious'

Budget hotel users are more sensitive to sustainability than other hotel segments, according to Accor's first Earth Guest Research survey.
The group said this may be due to the lower average age of economy hotel users, who tend to be younger than guests staying in mid and upscale hotels.
Its poll, covering France, Germany, UK, Brazil, Australia and China, also found energy and environmental awareness to be higher among men (82%) than women (72%).
The French, Germans and Brazilians widely insisted on their own role in the process, while Australian and British guests attributed almost equal responsibility to business and government.
Just over half of respondents said they wanted their room to be at "the right temperature as soon as they arrived," although nearly all (93%) said they were in favour of adjusting the air-conditioning themselves.
Going Green isn't seen as a sacrifice or equated with a lower-quality offering with 66% not expecting their comfort to suffer in a hotel engaged in sustainable development, the survey found.
* The Wolgan Valley Resort & Spa in Australia has maintained its carbon neutral status for the second year in a row with a carboNZeroCertTM recertification. Emirates claims it is the only hotel globally to achieve carboNZero certification by an internationally accredited greenhouse gas certification scheme.
