Atlanta Airport has been judged the world's most efficient aviation hub for the sixth year running by the Air Transport Research Society.

Hartsfield-Jackson, which features five runways and a 5.6m sq ft terminal complex, continues to make light work of its size.

The airport connects to 151 domestic destinations, serving as the hub for Delta, and more than 80 international destinations.

Alongsides its efficiency award, the airport also won the US cost competitiveness category.

Hong Kong retained its prime position in Asia, followed by Singapore and Guangzhou, while Oslo International Airport and Copenhagen Kastrup International Airport were judged the most efficient large airports in Europe.

The ATL building construction, partially replicated at LHR T5 is notably behind this efficiency. A number of not so long terminal buildings built in parallel and connected by a frequent underground train shuttle. Just brilliant.

ATL may have won for "efficiency" but in my experience it is anything BUT efficient! Making passengers go through security going INTO the US is the worst and most miserable, to say nothing of time consuming, experience, after long haul flights.

On top of that ATL loses and delays more bags than anywhere else in my oh too sorry experience. The staff are polite and smiling and get many of them are ultimately useless. I and many American friends and colleagues think this airport a National Disgrace!

Not so sure... I flew through Atlanta last October on Delta and I was not impressed besides the fact that the inbound flight from CDG was delayed and made us miss our SFO flight. ATL is an older airport with little air or light. I did appreciate the Jimmy Carter display though.
