Asia Pacific to lead world traffic by 2030

Airbus' latest global market forecast predicts Asia Pacific (33%), Europe (23%) and North America (20%) will spearhead world traffic by 2030.
Although it foresees both the US and Europe's percentage of global RPK declining by 7% and 4% respectively, compared with 2010, the fact Airbus believes the big three regions will hold their positions is significant in light of the ongoing growth of emerging markets. Asia Pacific is tipped to grow 5%.
While the Middle East is projected to have the highest growth rate over the next 20 years, its percentage of RPK is only predicted to increase from 7% to 11%.
Similarly, while Airbus has identified demand for 1,920 new aircraft in the Middle East during the next two decades, it's a small proportion of the 26,920 deliveries projected for the global market. Regional demand for twin-aisle aircraft (801) will narrowly surpass single-aisle aircraft (779), followed by the A380/VLA segment (302).
Nevertheless, the European manufacturer expects traffic within emerging economies to grow from 57% to 70% by 2030, fuelled by the growing middle class in India and China.
Commenting on Emirates' large B777 order yesterday (click here), John Leahy, Airbus Chief Commercial Officer, Customers, said there is "no real case" for the model when compared with the A350, which he claims consumes 20 tonnes less fuel on long-haul flights and is 20 tonnes lighter - but he acknowledged constraints with its own production cycles.
"I wish we had the 350/1000 and 320Neo earlier, but it is what it is. If you need lift now, you will buy the 777."
