Insurance scam???

Have just booked a longhaul flight on ba.com. When completing the booking I noticed that it has auto-ticked the add insurance box!!! Is this a new money raising scam for BA or was it just an anomaly? Anyone else come across it?

BA lost BMed to Bmi. BA Connect was sold to Flybe and now GB is lost to easyjet. Will BA have any shorhaul left soon? Makes is hard to gain status in the exec club if you don't fly long haul very much.
